The sweetness of the Svadhisthana

Svadhisthana what is it?

Svadhisthana is the Sanskrit word for the sacral chakra, in English it translates to the dwelling place within. The Sacral Chakra is the second chakra. It is associated with the emotional body, sensuality, and creativity. It’s element is water and as such, its energy is characterized by flow and flexibility.

In the Tantric tradition, this chakra is associated with the genitals and sexual energy. Indian teachings place a lot of emphasise on celibacy, to raise and transmute this powerful sexual energy to the brain (or, more correctly, the Upper T’ien Tan Centre), increasing higher consciousness. In practice however, this noble ideal flounders, because the individual is not yet ready to renounce physical sex, and may become psychologically unbalanced or full of guilt which would lead this chakra to also be unbalanced.

The sacral chakra is represented by the color orange and is located about three inches below the navel, at the center of your lower belly. In the back, it’s located at the level of the lumbar vertebrae.
The symbol is a lotus power with six petals, the sense is taste and the mantra for this Chakra is VAM.

The Sacral Chakra focuses on emotional depths, passion, pleasure and curiosity, This is the centre for emotion, pleasure, sensuality, intimacy, and connection.  I know some people who often refer to the second chakra as the “lover’s Chakra”.

Symbolically and literally, the Sacral Chakra is the birth canal. We are capable to birth a life we want, to start that project we’ve always wanted to do, a relationship, a friendship, anything that we can put our minds to. It is having that personal power to move forward in life and do what you have always dreamed of accomplishing. It is the sensation of being physically alive and creating the life you want.

The life lesson of the Sacral Chakra is to bond with others in an emotionally healthy way and to express our creativity freely.

A balanced Sacral Chakra

In order to live a passionate and deep life you must have a balanced Sacral Chakra. If you ever feel detached from society or from yourself,  or if you are sick you most likely also have an unbalanced Sacral Chakra.
The Sacral Chakra is the centre of creativity, everything that is possibly creative comes from the Sacral Chakra. It is also where your fertility originates. After all, conceiving a child is a creative process.

A person with an open Sacral Chakra is passionate, present in their body, sensual, creative, and connected to their feelings.
When the Sacral Chakra is balanced, the relationship with the world and other people is centered around nurturing, pleasure and harmonious exchange.

The Sacral centre is located to the quantity of sexual energy a person has.  When it is open, a person has a lot of sexual energy and sexual power.  When blocked, sexual sensations will be weak and disappointing.  People who have problems with guilt and sin, especially in the religious sense: the body is sinful, or sex is dirty; have problems with this chakra.


Balancing your Sacral Chakra

  • Meditate on specific energies and concepts.  By individually meditating on something specific we can help improve them. Mindfulness in a very condensed state.
  • Find an active passion.  The Sacral Chakra is not only a passionate and emotional chakra but it is also a physical one in this sense. People who are into yoga, tantra, sport etc usually have a pretty good sense of their emotional state, physical state and where they are going with what they are doing.  It is always good to find a physical activity or a hobby that you are passionate in and regularly indulge in to help balance this chakra.
  • Let go of regressive emotions and experience. Regressive experiences can help us want to stay away from positive progresses experiences we might be faced with. Take a few moments out to have mindfulness, forgive and forget and let go. You do not want to get tied to these emotions which will ultimately prevent this chakra from being balanced.
  • Soak in water and visualize Sacral Chakra balance.  Use a creative visualization meditation to visualize you Sacral Chakra and energy running towards it to help balance. Emotions and passion are fluid and so is water. They flow, they change, they adapt, they change in spectrum etc
  • Visualize orange. Orange is the sacral chakra’s color. Imagine a bright, healing orange glow filling up your entire lower abdomen—keeping in mind that we’re three dimensional.
  • Eat naturally orange-colored foods and wear Orange clothes. Oranges, Pumpkin, sweet potato are all naturally colored foods that can help balance your Sacral Chakra. By wearing and being around the colour Orange this can also give your Sacral Chakra a boost. shutterstock_439173490
  • Tone up.  While learning to let go of unnecessary muscular gripping and tension is ideal for chakra health throughout your body, it’s also important to take care of your body and keep your muscles strong and healthy.

The root to it all – Muladhara

Muladhara – What is it?

The root chakra.
The word Muladhara breaks down into two Sanskrit words: Mula meaning “root” and Adhara, which means “support” or “base.” Other names for this chakra are Base, First, Red, Coccygeal, Coccyx Chakra

The Root chakra is the foundation of the chakra system located at the base of the spine and groin area, this is the animal or base nature. It is the most physical of our chakras  Safety, security and stability are important keywords for a healthy base chakra as without these you do not have the feeling of belonging in your physical reality and tend to live in a world of illusions and poor feelings.
It is not only the color of blood that connects it to the Root Chakra but it is the vital source, keeping you alive, transporting nutrients and life force around your entire system. It is a core part of your survival and existence.

The lesson of this chakra is self-preservation; we have a right to be here.



Imbalances in the root chakra

If there is an imbalance in the root chakra you may experience anxiety disorders, fears, or nightmares. Physical imbalances may manifest as problems in the colon, with the bladder, with elimination, or with lower back, leg, or feet issues. In men, prostate problems may occur. Eating disorders may also be a sign of a root chakra imbalance.
Emotional imbalances include feelings affecting our basic survival needs: money, shelter and food; ability to provide for life’s necessities.
When this chakra is balance, you feel supported, a sense of connection and safety to the physical world, and grounded.

Opening and healing your root chakra

  • Going for a walk and getting outside is one of the best methods in opening your root chakra. Especially if your are barefoot feel the ground beneath your feet, then sit down and feel mother nature pulling on the base of your spine towards the core of the earth and think red. The root chakra is related to the color red so envisioning  a red flame glowing brightly at the base of your spine can help clear the root chakra. You can start with a meditation visualizing the red flame at the base of your tailbone and picture the light extending down to your legs and feet and grounding you to the earth.
  • Eat Red Fruit, Vegetables and anything naturally red in color. As mentioned in my previous post “wheel’s to the infinite you.” Eating naturally red food’s, which is the color of the root chakra will give your root chakra an instant boost.
  • Wear Red Clothing. If  you wear red this also give’s your root chakra a boost, this is also the same if you sleep in red bedding or in a red painted room etc
  • Dance. Dancing is one of the best way to open and heal your root chakra. The spontaneous movements that emerge while dancing the base chakra tend to draw inspiration from tribal dancing, as found in the indigenous cultures of Africa, Australia and North America. These tribal dances are linked to the issues of the base, including our roots, survival and grounding.
  • Do yoga. Many yoga postures are designed to cleanse this chakra.
  • Repeat positive affirmations. Repeating positive affirmations associated to the root chakra are very powerful methods in opening your root chakra. These include affirmations such as ” I am open to all possibilities.” ” I am grounded.” ” I am so grateful to be connected to mother nature and all life force.” “I am happy and grateful that today I am stable and secure.”
  • Crystals. It is important to wear or carry crystals to heal the root chakra and maintain a positive energy flow.



Floating through life

When your Root chakra is closed too far, you may actually feel that your feet don’t seem to really touch the ground.  The Root chakra is particularly about connecting to the ground. Expressions like “Be on firm ground” and “Getting on your feet again” convey a good connection and an open Root chakra. “To lose ground” and “Getting swept off your feet” convey a closed (or almost closed) Root chakra. The more we feel connection with the earth, the more we will feel purpose.

Balancing and opening the root/base chakra allows negative emotions to be released, regenerating confidence and your will to move forward in life. A healthy root/base chakra promotes feelings of security and encourages exploration to find your life’s purpose and achieve success.  A balanced root chakra also generates the flow of energy to all other chakras.

So we made it! The end of the year. whether it was miserable, positive, sad, lonely or amazing, we are here at the start of a new year. Forever grateful to be blessed on this earth another day. I love the idea of a new years resolution although I believe that they limit you to what you can do by placing too much pressure upon yourself. Society has lost sight of the process in itself rather than making a list of everything you want for the year to come, look at an area you want to improve or need to fix in your life, commit to what you really want to do and do it.
