Anja is the sanskirt word for the 6th chakra, also known as the third eye and is located in between and just above eye level. The Ajna chakra resides over the eyes and visual perception and the colour associated with the colour indigo, which is a combination of deepest blue and violet, It is also known as the wisdom centre and is associated with light. As you work with Ajna, you may want to see it as access to a cosmic vision, illuminating everything as it is without the filter of your past, your expectations, or your judgement.

Once Ajna is awakened, it acts like a gate into a place that lets you see beyond time and space. Scientifically, the Ajna chakra is at the pineal gland, a gland in your brain that many believe is important in sparking psychic abilities.

Many also consider the Ajna as the most powerful place of ethereal energy.

The Ajna chakra is not a physical thing. If your energies reach a certain peak in you, you have a new outlook on life. With your physical,  you can only have a perception of the world looking outwards. Where as with your third eye you can view life either from inward or outward, meaning you can use the power of your Ajna chakra to look within yourself and really find out what it is that you need to do in order to be the best version of yourself. From the moment we are born we begin to move away from our true selves. Parents and society subconsciously mould us into something we are not. As we grow up we forget our inner child and what used to make us smile and move into the ego mind – the false self.  Our false self is always the ego mind. Our ego is fed by us living in our false self,  which we are not. Anytime you find yourself egotistic chances are you are now embodying your false self. The Ego moves us out of the heart space, to move back into your true self you have to become ego less.

Ego Self VS True self

As humans it is only natural to get defensive but the thing is if we have our guard up it is part of our ego coming out and it will move us more into our false self.
Growing up we were conditioned to live up to society’s expectation’s whether it is what we see in magazines or on the internet, Subconsciously we process this as what is right and start to compare ourselves with other’s based on physical aspects. Moving us out of the heart centre and living as a false version of our self. We have relied on our ego for so long as a false sense of protection. It is a paradigm, The only way to change this is by shifting the ego mindset and moving back into the heart centre.

When we crave other people’s attention we will generally not attract the right sort of people into our lives whether it is our social or personal life, you get what you give and if we live from an ego mindset – our false self – this is exactly what we will attract back.

Belief vs emotion

Really we are not 100% happy when we are living from the ego. Most of us do not know who we are because of how society has conditioned our thinking growing up. We care to much about what other people think and this is what is holding most of us back, because of fear of embarrassment or fear of not fitting in.

We are all equal, we are not higher or lower than no one!  

Once we stop caring what other people think of us we truly become free.
Our true self is a valuable part of our self.

Integrity

You can not create anything positive and long lasting without integrity. By living and embodying your false self you are living with no integrity. It is important to always stay true to yourself, and love your self and your own company. No body will truly love you unless you love yourself. When you are living within your heart centre, which is your true self your life just begins to flow. You start to see the world and your place in this amazing world completely different, your purpose for being here will become a lot more clear. When you are living from your true self, you naturally start to realise your own inner potential and become a lot more being happy with who you are.

Your body should be active, as many bones as possible should be moving, but your inner space should be holding the whole skeleton structure’s visualisation. It will almost be like a skeleton dancing. You will see in your inner space the skeleton dancing, but that cannot reduce the speed of your dance. Your movement should be there and the skeleton structure should be held in your inner space.’

Why  mindful activities?

Mindfulness has been  shown  to  contribute  directly  to  the  development  of  cognitive   and  performance  skills  in  the  young.  When  children  and  young  people learn  to  be more  ‘present’ and  less  anxious,  they  often  find  they  can  pay  attention  better  and improve   the  quality  of  their  performance,  in  the  classroom,  on  the  sports  field, and  in  the  performing   arts  for  example.  They  often  become  more  focused,  more able  to  approach  situations  from   a  fresh  perspective, use  existing  knowledge  more effectively,  and  pay  attention more.

Here are 15 great activities to encourage a break from screen time.

  1. Go for a bike ride: When cycling you become more aware of your senses, bike riding is not only good for you and your child but it is also a fun activity. You can plan a route before you leave home, maybe pack a picnic. This can give you a great chance to be in nature also and ground yourself. Take in all the different sights and ask your child questions. Such as what are all the different noises you can hear? Birds singing, wind brushing through the trees, children laughing and so fourth. You could bring a notepad and some colouring pens and take time to have you and your child draw everything around you. This also make’s a great keepsake for future scrapbooks!
  2. Go to a park: Getting kids outside and having unstructured play promotes a wide range of skills. In a playground not everyone gets to go down the slide first. Going to a playground with your kids is not just about running around and being active, but it’s also about learning social skills, executive functions and behavioural skills as well through play.
  3. Bell ringing: Ring a bell and ask the kids to listen closely to the vibration of the ringing sound. Tell them to remain silent and raise their hands when they no longer hear the sound of the bell. Then tell them to remain silent for one minute and pay close attention to the other sounds they hear once the ringing has stopped. After, go around in a circle and ask the kids to tell you every sound they noticed during that minute. This exercise is not only fun and gets the kids excited about sharing their experiences with others, but really helps them connect to the present moment and the sensitivity of their perceptions.
  4. Go bird watching: Plan a little trip to your local parkIMG_6875 and before you set off research and keep note of what local bird life is around your area. Get a notepad and pen and set off on a journey with your little ones searching for the birds on your list.
  5. Planting flowers: Not just planting flowers but gardening in a whole is a very mindful activity. Gardening is a healthy, fun activity for children, Children develop new skills and learn about science and nature from growing their own food.
  6. Create a time capsule: I used to love doing this as a child, I would grab a few items that represented me the most, something of my favourite colour, cut outs of magazine’s, picture’s and I would put this all in an old shoe box and write a letter to the future, then I would have fun burying somewhere in my grandmother’s farm! You could have your child make there capsule and you could plan a day out going for a walk or a hike finding the perfect (and legal) spot to bury this capsule. I Have seen representations of this in movies where nostalgic people have gone back ten years later and dug up there box with there present family and friends.
  7. Play breathing buddies: Hand out a stuffed animal to each child (or another small object). If room allows, have the children lie down on the floor and place the stuffed animals on their bellies. Tell them to breathe in silence for one minute and notice how their Breathing Buddy moves up and down, and any other sensations that they notice. Tell them to imagine that the thoughts that come into their minds turn into bubbles and float away
  8.  Treasure hunt: Put together your own personalised treasure hunt. This also work’s as a great part game. Great way to get the children having fun and forget all about the TV!
  9. Superhero meditation: While you’re on the subject of superheroes, there is a fun and easy way to introduce your kids to paying attention to the present.Instruct your kids to turn on their “Spidey senses”, the super-focused senses of smell, sight, hearing, taste, and touch that Spider man uses to keep tabs on the world around him. This will encourage them to pause and focus their attention on the present, opening their awareness to the information their senses bring in.
  10. Gratitude jar: Get an empty jam jar and get your child/children to write down everything they are grateful for in the last 24 hours. Then shake it about and take turns to pick each one out and read it out loud. This is a great way of expressing gratitude and becoming a lot more present. It is also a great activity to help bring family together.
  11. Heartbeat exercise: Have the kids jump up and down in place for one minute. Then have them sit back down and place their hands on their hearts. Tell them to close their eyes and feel their heartbeats, their breath, and see what else they notice about their bodies.
  12. Colouring: Colouring is one of the most mindful activities a child can do. Not just for kid’s but this is great for mums who need to wind down at the end of the day! If you do not have colouring pens and a colouring pad make the most of what you have.  There is nothing wrong grabbing a scrap bit of paper and a pencil and sketching whatever flows out of your mind.
  13. Safari: The Safari exercise is another fun way to help kids learn mindfulness. This activity turns an average, everyday walk outside into an exciting new adventure.Tell your kids that you will be going on a safari, and their goal is to notice as many birds, bugs, creepy-crawlies, and any other animals as they can.
  14. Mini golf: Mini golf can be a great family day out, it is also very mindful!
  15. Vision Board: Visualisation is one of the most powerful mind exercises you can do and the power of a child’s imagination is amazing.  Adult’s often have vision board’s but there is no reason a child can’t either. Creating a sacred space that displays what you want actually does bring it to life. What we focus on expands. When you create a vision board and place it in a space where you see it often, you essentially end up doing short visualisation exercises throughout the day. So grab some card and some magazines and print out whatever your child want’s and love’s and have them stick everything that they want in the future on that card. Then everyday have your child look at it before bed or whenever is convenient and every week take time for your child to add, to there vision board.

‘A recent survey by online retailer Ao.com revealed children spending on average 17 hours a week in front of a screen, almost double the time spent playing outside.

‘This is deeply concerning. Children need to experience the real, live world to understand it – not see it on a screen.

‘We know from research that real play develops initiative, problem-solving skills and many other positive traits, such as a can-do attitude, perseverance and emotional resilience. It’s vital for social skills, too.

‘By playing together, youngsters learn to get along with other people. They discover how others’ minds work, developing empathy.

‘The first seven years of a child’s life are particularly vital to their learning and development. For example, by this age they must master physical co-ordination of large and small movements, such as focusing their eyes in different positions.

‘The rate of myopia, or short-sightedness, among young people in the UK has doubled in the past 50 years, and this has been linked to too much screen time. I believe this is a tragedy we must address urgently.’

Expressing yourself through the vishuddha

 Vishuddha, what it is?

The Vishuddha is the sanskirt word for the 5th chakra, also known as the throat chakra. The throat chakra is located in the centre of the throat and represented by the colour blue.
Our throat is the center of our communication and this is where we take in sustenance and express ourselves.
The fifth chakra is the first of the three spiritual chakras, to be open in the fifth chakra is to speak, listen, and express yourself from a higher form of communication.  If you where to learn to meditate on this chakra you will reach the grand state of Trikala Jnani—that is to say, one who is capable of knowing the past, present, and future.

 

The mind becomes free from the influence of our material world. noble and spiritual tendencies of the human mind.

When the energy of the mind reaches the vishuddha chakra a special powers of the mind gets awakened. 

 

Benefits of a balanced and aligned throat chakra

An open and balanced Vishuddha means that you can express yourself very well, verbally, emotionally, and spiritually, as well as have the ability to properly perceive what other people express out. You are able to have very truthful verbal expression, regardless of any fears about possibly not being accepted or be judged by what you want to say.

When this chakra is in balance we are able to tune in and listen to the guidance of our higher self. We can truly find our inner truth, and to communicate and live our truth in daily life. A balanced Vishuddha chakra allows us to easily communicate with others, and to be honest with ourselves.

The throat chakra is connected to self-expression, creativity, writing, listening to words and music, smell and taste. When this chakra is balanced, we speak and listen to people and what they have to say.

 

 

Opening your throat chakra

  • Meditate on specific energies and concepts.  By individually meditating on something specific we can help improve them. Mindfulness in a very condensed state.
  • Try Singing and playing and instrument. Singing is a fantastic method to clear your throat Chakra and you do not need to be a professional musician to play an instrument. You can easily pick up a snare drum at guitarcenter.com and have a few moment’s of mindfulness whilst also learning something new. It is good for your soul to step outside your comfort zone every now and again.
  • Let go of regressive emotions and experience. Regressive experiences can help us want to stay away from positive progresses experiences we might be faced with. Take a few moments out to have mindfulness, forgive and forget and let go. You do not want to get tied to these emotions which will ultimately prevent this chakra from being balanced.
  • Get a massage. If you get a good neck and shoulder massage your throat chakra will surely open up.
  • Soak in water and visualise your throat chakra balanced.  Use a creative visualisation meditation to see your throat chakra and energy running towards it. Emotions and passion are fluid and so is water. They flow, they change, they adapt, they change in spectrum etc
  • Think Blue. Have thoughts about a beautiful and bright blue light. Blue is the colour of the Throat Chakra. Inhale when you see this light and imagine that the light is filling up your throat area with cleansing and healthy light. When you exhale imagine that you are releasing all your stress and tension.
  • Use the power of affirmations. Using the power of affirmations is one of the most effective ways to balance our chakras. Our thoughts create our reality, and by regularly practising positive chakra balancing affirmations, we can do astonishing results in our lives.
  • Cry. It might sound odd, but crying is a form of purification that can unblock your throat chakra.  If you ever feel a ‘lump’ in your throat, it is a sign that your throat chakra could be blocked and you have to cry to help clear it. Next time when you are sad, cry it all out. You will surely feel better.

 

Blocked Vishuddha:

When the Vishuddha is not balanced communication breaks down. We may be unable to effectively let ourselves be heard, and, conversely, we may be unable to listen—to others, and to our own higher self. This chakra is damaged by all that passes through the throat—lying, gossip, alcohol, smoking, drugs, and overeating. Deficiencies in Vishuddha manifest as neck stiffness, shoulder tension, and teeth grinding.

A blockage of the vishuddha can cause you to become quiet, and fearful. The imbalance may also create feelings of anxiety, insecurity, and shyness when it comes to self-expression and speaking to others.

Below is a list of some of the non physical symptoms that might occur if you have a blocked throat chakra.

The magic in music

We are all musicians at heart

Music exists in every culture, and infants have excellent musical abilities that cannot be explained by learning. Mothers everywhere sing to their infants because babies understand it. Music seems to be part of our biological heritage, it can be used to help heal a closed chakra, to unwind after a long stressful day, to help heal a broken heart and so forth.

When you play an instrument you’re transmitting an emotional expression to others, as well as to yourself.  Playing and listening to music can be a form of mindful meditation in itself.

Mindful listening

Music has been used as therapy for thousands of years. The ancient Romans used music to heal the sick, and Native tribes used drum circles to connect with the Divine.

Mindful listening can give you a deeper appreciation of the music you already love, and even bring back those feelings of excitement or relaxation that you had when you first heard it. You may also hear things in the music that you never heard before, such as how the different harmonies intertwine to make the sound that pleases your ears.

Why all parents should NEVER use Johnson & Johnson baby products

Great marketing for a likely carcinogen product

When I had my son I was so conscious of what I used on his skin. Whilst he was newborn I would only use water wipes on his skin. If I had none I would use cotton wool and water. I had done my research when I was pregnant and decided I would only use burts bees natural skin care on my son when he was born. This was not the case.  I have friends who were self disciplined enough to only use natural organic skincare products on their children everyday regardless. With myself however being a new mum I would often forget things when travelling with the baby, such as wipes and I eventually would just start picking up the next best thing in the local shop’s and use that. After all, who has time to find a big supermarket that stocks all the natural holistic brands you are used to when you are on the go? When I look back quite frankly I got lazy. There is no excuse. Especially when skin is one of our biggest organs and not just our skin but our babies skin.

I remember being giving a baby hamper as a gift it had everything from shampoo, lotion, baby powder and baby oils. At the same I was on holiday and I remember thinking how handy it was to have everything all together.

This was the start into my Johnson & Johnson ordeal…

I regularly started to purchase Johnson’s night-time bath and bathe my son every night before bed. I did this for just over two months and I started to slowly notice changes in my baby’s skin. His arms and legs seemed a lot more dry than usual, over the week’s it got worse.
I took my son to the doctor and it turn’s out the Johnson had caused him to develop eczema. I was prescribed something to treat the eczema and my doctor gave me a long talk about how dangerous Johnson’s are and how sad it was that Johnson’s are able to market their products for babies when they are so awful for their skin and can potentially at the least make your child’s skin sensitive for life.
My mum used Johnson and johnson baby products on me all the time growing up and now I have such sensitive skin, that I only use cotton wool and water to clean my face. If I use a baby wipe my face feel’s like it is on fire. It literally burns. 

 

 

The truth behind Johnson’s

The last thing you expect when buying products for your children is for them to have dangerous cancer causing ingredients. This is the case when it come’s to Johnson and Johnson baby shampoo, moisture care baby wash and oatmeal baby wash just to name a few. One of these ingredients is Quarternium -15 ,  which releases formaldehyde; a skin, eye, and respiratory irritant, and a known carcinogen (formaldehyde exposure has been associated with leukaemia specifically).
The other ingredient is 1.4 – Dioxane – “probably carcinogenic to humans and is toxic to your brain, central nervous system, kidney’s and liver.

Johnson’s baby shampoo sold in the U.S. contains two hazardous ingredients 1.4 – dioxane and quaternium – 15. Which are not found in the product sold to certain other countries.  Johnson and Johnson also have a “natural” brand that does no contain these ingredients, yet the company still claims they’re working on reformulating their baby shampoo  “as quickly as we can safely and responsibly do so.

Why are Johnson and Johnson still risking the health of their customers?

Last year Johnson and Johnson had to pay out £60 million in damages to a woman who contracted cancer after using the firm’s famous Baby Powder. It is crazy that they are still able to sell their products.

On October 31, The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics sent Johnson & Johnson a letter signed by 25 environmental and medical groups, demanding they “commit to removing the chemicals from all of its products by November 15.” The Campaign also urges everyone to boycott Johnson & Johnson until it complies.

Johnson & Johnson recently responded, stating that:

“We have been phasing out the use of preservatives that release tiny amounts of formaldehyde to guard against bacterial contamination. These preservative technologies, which are used widely in our industry are all safe and approved in the countries where they are sold… Over the past couple of years, we already have reduced the number of formulations globally with these ‘formaldehyde releaser’ preservatives by 33% and in the U.S. by over 60%.

We are completing this reformulation as quickly as we can safely and responsibly do so. As part of the manufacturing process, we have extensive monitoring to ensure that the amount of a trace byproduct known as “1,4 dioxane” in any of our products is well below the level that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and regulatory agencies around the world consider safe.

…We have introduced new product formulations for consumers who prefer natural products, such as JOHNSON’S® NATURAL®, a line that is 98% natural, and contains no formaldehyde releasing preservatives or traces of 1,4 dioxane.”

It really does show you that big brand’s such as Johnsons only care about one thing and it is not the health and safety of their customers. Which I find disgusting considering they are marketed at children.

At the end of the day children are our future. We should all be doing the most when it come’s to protecting them and their future.

From Jerk chicken to Beans & greens – How I turned into a vegetarian overnight

Let me start by saying this is not a blog trying to convince you to stop eating meat and to turn vegan. This is just my story and what made me stop eating meat overnight and what kept me from eating any meat, eggs or diary (with the exception of cheese… guilty pleasure!) for the past year now. There is no need to just suddenly become a vegetarian overnight if you are looking to stop eating meat, I recommend slowly cutting down either by having a meat free lunch or dinner then moving on to maybe one day a week with no meat and then slowly challenge yourself to a weekend with no meat and so forth. 

Why did I go green?

Funnily enough me turning into a vegetarian was completely subconscious. Everybody who knows me can not believe that I do not eat meat anymore. I would eat so much meat; burgers, meatballs, ribs, pulled pork, just to name a few.

I was on holiday in Wales and we had just packed out the fridge full of everything I loved. Steak, burgers, chicken, gammon, sausages.  I am a big foody, the sort who get’s excited about eating, and to be honest I could not wait to divulge into that steak, cooked medium rare covered in peppercorn sauce.  However the strangest thing happened when I ate it…

Prior to me having my steak dinner I did an extremely deep guided meditation where I met my spirit guides, it was completely life changing and amazing (More on that later.)  The reason I am mentioning my meditation is because I do believe it had something to do with what happened when I was eating my steak dinner in Wales that night.

So I just got a great big fork full of juicy succulent steak and was using it to soak up the peppercorn sauce on my plate, as I took a bite, something happened that had never happened before, I could taste past the flavours. Don’t get me wrong there was absolutely nothing wrong with the steak but for the first time ever I sat there thinking I am chewing dead flesh. However, I still ate all of my food and did not think much about it.

The next meal…

The next day I had Jerk chicken and rice and peas. One of my favourite meals that I grew up on. I took my first bite not even thinking about the night before because of how hungry I was. It went down fine, however my second bite was even worst than when I had eaten the steak the night before. It did not matter how good the chicken tasted I could taste right past the flavours once again. I was chewing a dead chicken. My partner was eating BBQ beef brisket at the time so I decided to have some of his… it was exactly the same. Straight past all the hickory BBQ flavour’s and right into “the flesh.”
It was carnage. I could not finish my meal.
